Women Empowerment
Women's empowerment means empowering women to make their own decisions. Women have suffered greatly at every age at the hands of men. Centuries ago, they were treated as if they did not exist. As if all rights belong to men and even something as basic as voting. As time went on, women recognized their power. Then began the transformation of women's empowerment.
Since women were not allowed to make decisions for them, the exploitation of women comes in as a breath of fresh air. It made them realize their rights and how they should make their place in society rather than relying on men. Be aware of the fact that things can only work in someone else's favor because of their gender. However, we still have a long way to go when we talk about reasons why we need it.
The Need for Women Empowerment
Almost every country, no matter how advanced you are, has a history of violence against women. In other words, women from all over the world have rebelled against the status quo today. While western countries are developing, third world countries such as India are still lagging behind in supporting women.
In India, women's empowerment is much needed than ever. India is among the safest countries for women. There are various reasons for this. First, Indian women are at risk of being killed in honor. Their family thinks it is their right to take their own lives if they degrade their reputation.
Moreover, the state of education and freedom is very sad here. Women are not allowed to pursue higher education, get married prematurely.
Men still dominate women in some regions as a woman's desire to work for her endlessly. They do not allow themselves to go out or have freedom of any kind.
In addition, domestic violence is a major problem in India. The men beat his wife and abused her as they thought women were their property. Mostly, because women are afraid to talk. Similarly, working women are actually paid less than their male counterparts. It is completely wrong and homosexual to pay a young person for the same job because of their gender. Therefore, we see that empowerment of women is a need of the hour.
Seeing it as an old age, a woman is treated as a lowly citizen of the whole world. The position does not exist or is almost universal. Women have been given the lowest status despite representing about 50% of the world's population today. In the eyes of sensible and appropriate skills, this situation has lowered a woman's self-esteem, independence and pride as human beings. Therefore, women's empowerment is a compelling problem in today's world.
Exploitation of women is the course of steps taken by women to own and control their lives through the expansion of their choice (Khan & Awan, 2011). Now this paper will discuss aspects i.e. .; gender inequality, lack of education and impairment of women's empowerment and a number of recommendations for development.
At the beginning of the evolution, women enjoyed a highly regarded position in society equally with men. They became involved in social, religious, and competitive power. In addition, traditional ceremonies are considered incomplete if women do not participate. However, it was their main constitution that became a problem when it came to various complex tasks. Gradually, they began to depend on men for their food, employment, and other necessities.
During social development, the status of women changed due to the establishment of ancestry i.e.; male dominion. Gradually, male domination crept into society and the dignity of women was tossed about, surpassing that of men. Women have made great strides in various areas of life and are finding success such as teachers, doctors, engineers, pilots etc. This achievement should be deeply appreciated as they have received these things through the worst of circumstances and at the expense of the most critical public criticism.
According to the UN UN Women’s Fourth World Conference, “a male-dominated society, strong traditional values and fundamental social norms make women’s cultures suffer” (Awan, 2012). However, much effort is being made by civil society organizations, microfinance institutions, regulatory agencies, international organizations such as CARE, UNICEF to raise women but the status of women is the same or less common in the current situation.
Women are discriminated against and are deeply involved in many problems because of social structure. It turns out that women are among the most vulnerable in society (Naz, Ibrahim & Ahmed, 2012). Gender inequality affects the empowerment of women in a negative way. In today's world, although women work in many fields of work, they are still considered weaker than men. Many cultures and societies question the ability of women to perform certain tasks. For example; in Africa, politics and the economy are believed to be male domains.
In addition, in Nigeria, it is customary for men not to participate in household chores but only for women. In the context of Liberal Feminism, society believes that women are naturally less talented and have more physical fitness which excludes women from political, economic and educational spheres (Bimolain, 2013). In Pakistan, discrimination against women is widespread. As there is a prominent male society, women are limited to participation in activities, property and have no right to raise their voices. A study was conducted in Faisalabad and Rawalpindi to measure the level of empowerment of women in the study and perceptions of social issues and the impact on women on domestic exploitation.
The results show that the majority of women had a lack of resources and poor education, their involvement in paid jobs was unpopular, low awareness of their rights, low decision-making power, low mobility and low level of participation in family discussions (Khan, 2010).
